Who are we?
Social Enterprise Solutions (SES) is a boutique consulting firm, based in Nova Scotia, that specializes in advancing the sustainability and impact of nonprofits and social enterprises. Founded by Andy Horsnell in 2018, the firm leverages his 30+ years of experience, working with 100s of organisations — large and small, rural and urban ‒ throughout North America and abroad.
FOUNDER
Andy Horsnell
Andy has worked for over three decades to help community-based enterprises and local economies be more resilient, self-reliant, and sustainable. He has worked with 100s of organisations — large and small, rural and urban ‒ throughout North America and abroad. He has held senior roles at several firms (Acadia Centre for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, the National Center for Social Entrepreneurs, Rolfe Larson Associates, Aperio, and the Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador), and has co-founded others (Authenticity Consulting, Common Good Solutions, and Flourish Community Development Co-operative). In addition to his own consulting practice and Flourish, Andy currently works as a consulting associate for: Horizons Community Development Associates, LearnSphere, and the Centre for Local Prosperity. As a volunteer, he serves as the vice-chair of the Social Enterprise Council of Canada, is a founding director of Just, Good Business (formerly the Social Enterprise Network of Nova Scotia), and served as the chair of the Centre for Local Prosperity. When not consulting, Andy works with his wife SJ on their little sheep farm in beautiful Kempt Shore, Nova Scotia (check us out at Pheasant.Ridge.Farm on Instagram).

Robert Nichols
Robert works with organizations and communities to guide them to achieve their ultimate impact by facilitating result-oriented, community-driven projects.
A strong communicator, Robert understands how to draw out and synthesize a group’s knowledge about an issue, and then give them the tools they need to address it.
He has nine years’ experience working with social purpose organizations across Canada, including non-profits, charities, and governments. His core areas of focus are: business planning, strategic planning, impact measurement, and deep community engagement.
When not working, Rob spends as much time as he can hiking, biking, paddling, skiing, and camping.
